Club 10 Mile TT Results

31/3/2014

Great to see so many club riders out at our TT on saturday, particularly those of you who have never competed before, I really hope you all enjoyed it and are encouraged to keep competing and improving your times.  You can all compete in any of the CTT events which you can view on their website www.ctt.org.uk and try and improve your times.  Some of us will defiantly be heading down to the Bristol South club events after Easter which are only a short hop away in either Aust or Chew Valley http://www.bristolsouthcc.co.uk/djk/Club_Events/classic_league.php

Anyway here are the rankings from club riders from Saturday

BMX Supercross World Cup 2014

The BMX Supercross World Cup comes to Manchester in April. Check out the teaser video.

Weekly Roundup

We're getting close to the end of term. Deadlines are looming, but there's plenty going on to distract you. Check out the latest trip announcements (some deadlines very soon), and more info about the Open TT.

Curry Night

To round off the term, we thought it would be nice to have a curry night on the last Wednesday of term (2nd April).

Venue: Garam Massala, Cotham Hill.

Date: 2nd April @ 7pm

Please RSVP to the facebook event by Friday 28th March so we can book a table. It'll be between £7-12/pp depending on what you eat (we're checking to see if we can get a group deal) and it's BYOB.

Exmoor Day Trip - Road - 5th April

On Saturday 5th April we're heading to Exmoor to wrap up a brilliant term and work on those tan-lines.

Sign-up now open. Only £7 to cover van hire and fuel, it's a bargain. Only 18 spaces available, so sign-up quick to avoid disappointment. When you're signed up, please head to this link to fill out emergency contact details.

BUCS Track 10-11th May

BUCS Track Championships have been announced, and will be held in Manchester this year. If you have been to a couple of sessions on the track this could be for you.

Georgie has put together loads ofinfo on the website so check it out.

To register your interest in taking part, please send Georgie a message with what events you may be interested in.

Alps Trip - 14th-21st June 2014

You've probably heard about this already, now we really need to confirm numbers so we can book accommodation.

The cost will be somewhere between £230-300 for accommodation, food and travel.

Please comment on this facebook post if you would like to come. At the end of this week we will book accommodation only for those who have commented.

Open TT Information

Next Saturday (29th) is the UOBCC Open TT. All competitors should have already received the start sheet by email (also available here). You should aim to be at the HQ at least 40mins before your start time, to sign on and collect your number.

It's fairly simple to cycle to, however you might be able to get a lift with someone driving up. See this facebook post to organise a lift.

Bristol BMX Track Session

We are off to ride the Bristol BMX track on Tuesday 1st April. This is an entirely casual ride for both experienced riders and beginners (even roadies) to have a go at riding the local BMX track. Some casual racing might break out if people are up for it. All the jumps are a good size (but way smaller than the Olympic tracks!) but you can easily roll over all of them and it is a great place to get used to pumping and jumping over a variety of jumps. Any Mountain bike will be fine, flat pedals recommended. We will meet at 5pm at the water tower on the downs and ride up to the track. We should be back before dark but lights would be a good idea. Helmets mandatory and knee pads and gloves are recommended. More info here.

Rides This Week

Wednesday - Meet at the Clifton Suspension Bridge at 2pm. Road and XC split into different ability groups and head out to explore the countryside.

Sunday - Much the same, meet at 10am at the bridge for road and XC rides.

Weekly Roundup

FoD was spectacular, mega props to Matt Kovar for making it happen. We have loads going on in March, including an XC trip to Afan coming up in two weeks. Afan is a club favorite; XC Captain, Eric was overheard praising it as "the most epic trail centre in South Wales." Definitely worth getting along to the last XC trip before BUCS. More details below. Next weekend is Tour de Burrito. Final details will be rolling out this week. Social on Wednesday! Get involved.

Social - Ignit10n Launch Party

This Wednesday is the IGNIT10N LAUNCH PARTY! There will be team games, loads of glitter, GOLD, and most excitingly, a CHOCOLATE FOUNTAIN!!!! It would be so great to get as many people as possible to the launch event to support Ignit10n. We will meet at spoons on the triangle at 8 before heading over to Bunker for our FREE drinks. VERY IMPORTANTLY - the theme is GOLD!! Let's make the effort and kick Ignit10n off to a great start.
You don't need to be taking part in Tour de Burrito to come along. Everyone is welcome.
Join the event on Facebook.

Love Your Bike

There will be a Love Your Bike cycling event on Wednesday 5th March, 12-4pm. They will be outside the Richmond Building Bike Shed (or inside it if it rains!). There will be a FREE Cycle Clinic, a low cost cycle lock sale and a Travelwest Roadshow. For further details check out the Travel News pages. For the latest travel news, advice and prize draws follow on Twitter (@UoBrisTravel) and/or 'like' on Facebook.

Afan XC Trip (March)

XC trip to Afan on 15th or 16th of March. This will be last XC trip before BUCS. Please fill out the poll to help us get an idea of numbers interested: http://doodle.com/ftwh9dzfwraqh793
More info on Afan here.

Belmont Hill - Dig Day

22nd-23rd March is the final dig day of winter! Join us and help make it happen for the summer. We'll be working on a bunch of fun stuff, gaps, hips, berms etc so don't be shy and/or lazy! This is the spot and we need YOU to help us dig! Please invite your friends! More info on Facebook.

Tour De Burrito Update

The big day is this Saturday (8th March). We're doing a fantastic job on the fundraising front, so keep it up and let's smash that target.
More details will be posted on facebook throughout the week, so keep an eye out. If you're not in the group, join here.
A reminder to purchase train tickets before the day.

Extra Track Sessions

Track sessions at Newport Velodrome.
1. Sunday 9th March 12-2pm. (More details on facebook.)
2. Monday 17th March 11am to 2pm. £16 for 3 hour session. Bike hire about £7.50. Coach Chris Davis - open to riders from first timers to regular riders. MessageBrian Campbell for more details.
Accreditation possible at this session!
For UCI Track World Championships highlights, check out UCI on Youtube.

Team UOBCC Interval Training

Now the weather seems to have turned its time for the return of Tuesday morning intervals!
First session was this morning. There's usually a 24 minute short rep high intensity set (plus warm up and cool down).
All abilities welcome.
Meet 7am at the downs water tower.

Also keep an eye on facebook for Tuesday evening hill reps, and Thursday evening intervals.

Time Trials

  • UOBCC Open 10 mile TT - We've only got 6 members signed up to our own TT. It's local. Transport is free, and it'll be really fun, so get your entries in on the CTT website.
  • Bristol South CC are hosting a 27.2mile hilly TT in the Cotswolds on 27th April. We're told it's a course suited to road racers rather than TT specifically, so it could be fun to give it a crack. Details on BSCC website. Entries (£8) by cheque or via CTT website.
  • Details of the BUCS 3-Up TT and Track events are now available online.
