Weekly Roundup

Racing in December is an odd one. It's cold, wet and dark. The Pros are having a break (with the exception of some nutters in Belgium racing what look like road bikes through mud and all sorts of other difficult terrain... aka Cyclo-Cross), so there's a general consensus to follow that trend. UOBCC broke the trend in style with some hardy riders putting on a brave face, battling the cold, and producing the best week for results so far this term!
Matt Kovar, Downhill Captain, showed some of his DH prowess in the Men's Senior Category in the Forest of Dean 661 Mini DH Winter Series where he was pipped into 2nd place by just 0.13secs! Congrats to Matt on his cracking performance.
The first of the Odd Down Winter Series took place on Sunday. In the first race of the day, Georgie S-B stormed the women's race with a great 1st place finish to 'start' the season. Hattie and Georgie P pulled off very impressive rides finishing 8th and 9th respectively which meant all UOBCC riders finished in the Top 10!
The men had a lot to live up to, and they didn't disappointed. Will Barr firmly secured his place as a 3rd Cat rider for next season with a 2nd place finish in the 4th Cat Only race, and debut racer, Charlie, took home 7th! Meanwhile the lanky legs of 'Sam Gam' produced some seriously questionable power to pull off a solid 10th place in the 2/3 Cat race. Perhaps it's time for doping controls in 2/3 races?
Well done to all! We wait to hear the report about Theo's last lap solo attempt. We hope to see more people represent the club in the new year. If you've got any questions about racing, contact Mat Mew. For all British Cycling Membership or Race licence in enquiries, contact Tom Mowbray.

Christmas Social & SCORE!

A reminder that the Christmas Meal is Tomorrow at 7:30pm at Mud Dock (Wednesday 11th). The dress code is Smart/Casual
Post Meal Drinks at Mat's House before we head to the final SCORE of the term at the O2. Join the event on facebook The theme for the night is The Nightmare Before Christmas, so please bring some costumes to change into at Mat's. You can get some costume inspiration here.
We only have limited tickets available so to avoid disappointment, buy your tickets before the night at www.ubu.org.uk/activities/cycling
Please feel welcome along to the pre-drinks at Mat's and/or SCORE even if you are not going to the meal. There will be free drink (alchoholic and non-alcoholic) on the club!

Gym Sessions

There is a 12-week strength training plan available on our website for you to have a go at in your own time. (This doesn't work in a group). We will be running some group core sessions next term and potentially some spinning sessions if there is enough interest. In the meantime, we encourage you to use the facebook group mentioned below to organise meeting up for weights/core sessions.
Ever wanted thighs like Fabian? It's never too late! Now's the time to increase your power for the fast approaching race season.

Facebook Group

As a club we try to keep our social media up to date as much as possible. The facebook group is an area where anyone can contribute. It comes into its own for organising rides when everyone is busy or for notices that don't quite make the email or need to be acted on very quickly. The first 2 weeks of term are reserved for exams, so there will be no official club rides until Sunday 26th January; we expect a big turn out for this! If you fancy a ride during the exam period, just put a message on facebook and there will usually be someone else around begging for an excuse to procrastinate.
Request to join the group via this link: https://www.facebook.com/groups/164251336932870/
