URGENT! Time Trial Marshals

We really need some more marshals for the club Open 10 mile TT on 29th March. Details here. We can't run the event without the help of some volunteers to marshall the event. It's really easy, and there'll probably be a free beer or burrito in it too. It won't take up much time and it would really help give something back to the club. Drag your mates along too and get some support going. We'll sort out transport to the event closer to the time. If you can help out marshalling/driving to the event or with first aid, please get in touch with Tom Hall (th1754@bristol.ac.uk). Thanks in advance, and those planning to race, enter the race on the CTT website.

Forest of Dean - Sat 1st March

We're heading to FOD on Saturday for some Uplift and XC. There are 10 uplift spaces and another 6 spaces in the minibus for XC. £15 Uplift, £10 XC. Sign-up online asap: www.ubu.org.uk/activities/sports/Cycling/

BUCS TT Entries. DEADLINE FRIDAY!

BUCS 10 Mile TT Championships (Cambridge), 19th April.
BUCS 25 Mile TT Championships (Oxford), 26 April.
If you would like to be entered to either event please email Mat Mew mm1041@my.bristol.ac.uk by Friday 28th February with the following below:

TT Entry Info

  • 1. Fastest recent time for solo 10/25 mile TT (if any) - HH:MM:SS
  • 2. Date of fastest 10/25m TT time? – DD:MM:YY
  • 3. Name of event or promoting club that this time was achieved in (if known)
  • 4. Rider Comments (especially in the absence of qualifying times)
  • 5. Emergency contact details (name and number).
  • 6. Contact telephone number of competitor.
  • 7. Competitor's Date of Birth
These events are heavily oversubscribed so you WILL need an entry time (and it will have to be relatively quick too), if you don't have a recent time - make it up.

Track Trip - 30th March

There will be a track trip to Newport Velodrome on 30th march, 6-9pm, all abilities are welcome (day after club 10mile TT). The session will be run by another club but we should be able to take about 10 people. Anyone interested please contact Georgie gs0431@my.bristol.ac.uk. Places are available on a first come first served basis.
The trip will be subsidised, and cost will depend on the number of people signing up.
If you would like to get accredited, please contact Newport Velodrome to get on the waiting list. There will be some subsidy available to help with costs.

Tour De Burrito Fundraising

For those taking part in Tour de Burrito, please can you set up your fundraising page asap. Instructions can be found here. See Tom Hall's post in the group about how to link to UOBCC and profile pictures.

Saturdays: Sat 1st March, 85 miles, meet at the downs water tower at 7:30am.
Please bring lots of food so you don't bonk!
Full details are on our website. @ignit10nBristol

Volunteer for FoodCycle

Get on your bike and help out a great cause. Foodcycle are looking for volunteers every Saturday 9-10pm (and Sunday mornings). It's easy peasy. You collect food from sainsburys that would otherwise be thrown out and then take it back to someone's house for the night. The next day it's all cooked up into a wonderful free meal at Easton Community Centre, which everyone is welcome to! Join the volunteer area here on their website and sign-up to the rota to help out.

Racing Roundup

Another weekend of road circuit racing, this time at The Llandow Motor Racing Circuit in Wales where the relentless wind seemed to increase throughout the day. Tom H and Ben raced in the 4ths, where a few strong riders were strung out along the front and most of the rest of the field tried to sit in the bunch. The wind made bunch positioning important. Ben fought it out in the final sprint (position unknown). In the 3/4s the wind had picked up even further. After 20 minutes and lots of attacking a group of ~5 strong riders got a small gap. Cam tried to jump across with 3 laps to go but blew up and finished at the back of the field. "One of the toughest races I've done for absolutely ages. Making a break and only managing 15mph is a weird feeling."
It was a similar story for the two Georgie's in the women's race, as the wind was even stronger. Kudos to everyone who raced in such difficult conditions.
