Last Newsletter of the Term

In the last newsletter of the 2013/14 Year, we have a race report from BUCS XC, messages from the incoming and outgoing club presidents. A reminder of your new committee members, and some events to put in the diary to kick off 2014/15.

BUCS XC Roundup

Mud, sweat and a lot more mud coated the UOBCC riders as they battled it out against the elements and Universities from across the land at BUCS XC this weekend. Despite a month's worth of rainfall drenching the course and turning the starting field into a swamp in the hour before the Champs race start, every UOBCC rider made it round the course, with some impressive results from both women and men's teams.

Mads and Louisa finished 4th and 7th respectively to take home Bronze Medal for UOBCC in the team event!

Cam, Mike and Eric finished 14th, 20th and 30th respectively in the Champs race. Other riders who battled through the brutal conditions include Aleksa, Alex, George and Nick.

Well done to everyone who took part. It was a truly brutal race, and just to finish is a great achievement! For more pictures, check out the gallery on the website.

A Message from Outgoing President, Tom Hall

I’d like to thank everyone for making this year such a success both all the members for supporting the events and all the rest of the committee for their tireless work to organise activities.  It’s been a pleasure to help run the club for you all this year and it’s great to see so many enthusiastic new faces coming through.

I know that Mat and all of next years committee will keep up the good work and make the club even better next year and I wish them the best of luck. I still have another year of Uni left so I look forward to cycling with everyone again next year and have a great summer everyone!

A Message from UOBCC Club President 14/15

Hey! My name's Mat and I'm the incoming club captain for next year. For those of you that don't know me, I'm soon to be a 4th year Engineering Design student and I'm a fan of skinny tyres and tight clothing - although I'm sometimes still prone to frolic in the mud.

I'm super excited for what's already in store for the next academic year. We've got a barrage of events planned to make next year bigger and better.

The term will kick off with the very popular first ride of the year (with a little twist on previous years). We're hosting our first ever open hill climb on our local Belmont hill. We've got coached skills sessions organised at the closed circuit in Bath. We have four away trips as well as BUCS hill climb and cyclocross. On top of this we have some great socials planned, mechanic sessions, centurions and even CAKE RACING!

I look forward to seeing you all at freshers fair and the first ride - get involved and make the most of your next year at Bristol!

Haiku of the Week - by Mat Mew

The road goes upwards
conversation stops, puff, pant
the silence of hills

Picture of the Week

Mads battled through the mud to finish as UOBCC's top placed rider in 4th at BUCS XC!
