Weekly Roundup

We've got a new committee and we've got cake racing! Read on to find out more.

Also, a quick shout out to Georgie, Ryan (aka Fabian), Mat and Chris competing at the BUCS track champs in Manchester this weekend! We hope the home of GB cycling success rewards us with some of our own.

Cake Racing - 11th May (Road and MTB)

It's time for some cake races, which will be this Sunday, 11th May.  These are fun, friendly, timed runs either up a hill (road) or down a dirt track (MTB), which conclude with a yummy carvery lunch. This year, we'll be doing a race each for both road and MTB, but of course you're all free to do both if you like. Here's the plan:

Road: Most, if not all of the 10am Sunday road groups will end up at the bottom of Belmont Hill at 12:30pm, where Eric will be waiting to send you off for a run up the hill if you'd like to get timed.  The finish line will be about here, right next to the start of the MTB tracks.

MTB: We'll be doing runs down the Belmont Hill dirt tracks, following a course that should be both fun and beginner-friendly.  Timed runs will start around 1pm, but you can show up as early as you like to mess around.  If you'd like to ride out there together, Eric will be departing from the bridge at 11:10 (meeting at 11:00) to head over.  For those making their own way, the trail entrance is here.

Our carvery meal has been booked at Gatcombe Farm Shop, we're on for their 2pm lunch, which should give us some time to do prizes beforehand.  The place is just down a forest path from the Belmont Hill tracks, but can also be accessed by road via a longer route.  MTBers, it would be great if you could bring as many locks and cables as you can, that way we can secure everyone's bike.

Note:  If the weather is seriously uncooperative, we may move this event to another week, but for now we're looking alright.

BUCS XC - Entries close 13th May!

BUCS XC will take place on June 7th at Birchall, and we'll be heading up the night before to camp out, BBQ, chill in our big gazebo, and maybe even challenge Bath to a long-skid contest.  We want to bring the biggest team we can, so this is a FREE trip, the club is even covering race entry.

Sign-up on the union page.

Social Rides

As it gets closer to exams, the social rides will continue every week, but there may not necessarily be any committee ride leaders.

Wednesday - Meet at the Clifton Suspension Bridge at 2pm. Road and XC split into different ability groups and head out to explore the countryside.

Sunday - Meet at the Clifton Suspension Bridge at 2pm. Road and XC split into different ability groups and head out to explore the countryside.

Organise other rides through the facebook group.

TED talk of the week: Are athletes really getting faster, better, stronger?

If you've got 15mins to spare, this is quite interesting.
