For the 2019/20 academic year, UOBCC has been awarded Performance Sport status! This gives us much-needed funding and guidance to support and develop our athletes with professional coaches and dedicated training sessions. We regularly race at the Odd Down cycling track in Bath, in the WTTA hill climb league, local time trials and in all BUCS events.

Who are we?
The performance squad consists of riders who enjoy racing! While some have been racing for years, many started cycling at university or have come from other sports like triathlon and rowing. Most of the focus is on road and track competition, however we also have riders who race cyclocross and XC. Coaching plans can be tailored to suit your discipline.

How do I join?
To join you must have a standard UOBCC membership and the Performance Squad membership. This extra membership subsidises our coaches and hiring of Odd Down cycle track for training. Click here to sign up! Members of the squad are also required to have, as a minimum, the Get Active gym membership.

Spinning

Weekly spinning sessions are vital to improve your cardio-vascular system as well as getting your sprints and torque work dialled in.

These sessions are run in the centre for Sport, Exercise & Health and feature an eclectic mix of tunes bound to get anyone up and spinning until the sun comes up!

For all things spinning, please get in touch with our Vice Captain of Road.

Strength & Conditioning

Weekly coached strength and conditioning sessions are to develop core muscle strength and flexibility. This allows riders to make the most of longer training rides and makes being on the bike more comfortable – giving you the edge when it really counts.

These sessions also include a core and stretch session. A strong core will increase your power and skills on the bike while regular stretching will avoid injury and allow you to make the most of the sessions!

Development Squad

Picture
We run a development squad formed of like-minded people who are aiming to improve their riding, with a view to race or simply participate in more activities within the club.  Development rides are committee led on Saturday mornings, focusing on skills and watt-enhancement. For more information, please get in touch with our Vice Captain of Road.
