Performance

The performance squad consists of riders who enjoy racing!

We regularly race at the Odd Down cycling track in Bath, in the WTTA hill climb league, local time trials and in all BUCS events.

Who are we?
The performance squad consists of riders who enjoy racing! While some have been racing for years, many started cycling at university or have come from other sports like triathlon and rowing. Most of the focus is on road and track competition, however we also have riders who race cyclocross and XC. Coaching plans can be tailored to suit your discipline.

How do I join?
To join you must have a standard UOBCC membership. Members of the squad are also required to have, as a minimum, the Get Active gym membership, so that you can access spinning classes.

Spinning

Weekly spinning sessions are vital to improving your cardio-vascular system as well as getting your sprints and torque work dialled in.

These sessions are run in the centre for Sport, Exercise & Health and feature an eclectic mix of tunes bound to get anyone up and spinning until the sun comes up!

For all things spinning, please get in touch with our Vice Captain of Road.

To be able to access spinning, you will need to have a #wearebristol pass which is available to purchase through the Bristol SU website.

Strength & Conditioning

Weekly coached strength and conditioning sessions are to develop core muscle strength and flexibility. This allows riders to make the most of longer training rides and makes being on the bike more comfortable – giving you the edge when it really counts.

These sessions also include a core and stretch session. A strong core will increase your power and skills on the bike while regular stretching will avoid injury and allow you to make the most of the sessions!

We will be running these on zoom after the road off season (from november onwards) and encourage all performance riders to participate!

Where do I do my efforts?

Burrington is great for anything up to a 10 to 12 minute effort.

We use belmont for our annual hill climb. This is a great event so be sure to check it out!

The climb is perfect for efforts up to about 5-8 minutes.

These are nice and straight roads that we use for interval training, they wide and straight, so pretty safe.

This is the cheddar climb, plus a little bit extra to get a good 20 min test in. It will take about an hour to get over, so you'll be nice and warmed up by the time you get there.
