Strava Unravelled (FAQs)

What's Strava?
Strava is essentially an online social media platform for logging exercise.  You can use it to track where you run, ride or swim (if you so wish) and then share it with people.

How does it work?
Out in the wild, Strava works from the dedicated app on your phone (available on iOS and Android app stores) and uses the GPS on your phone.  You simply start it recording when you set off and stop it when you get back!

I've seen people with funky screens on their bikes, what are they?
These 'funky screens' are generally called head units.  They are dedicated to telling you things like your speed, distance and heart rate amongst other things but most people use their GPS functions to track their rides and upload them that way. If you're interested, chat to any cyclist about them and they'll point you in the right direction.

What if I don't want people to see where I've been?
You don't have to show people, there's a private setting on Strava which solves this problem. It's also worth stressing here that you don't have to use Strava at all, it's only a bit of fun!

If you have any more questions, just drop an email to anyone on our committee, they'll be happy to help.

Note: this is not officially associated with Strava in any way, it's simply a guide to answer some common questions.
